Sanitation/Sanitize/Clean – to greatly reduce the number (99%) of pathogens on a surface
-Pathogens are bacteria, viruses, germs, visible debris
Proper sanitation is performed by removing all visible debris with soap & water, alcohol, or cleaning agent
|

Why not sterilize?
Sterilization is completely unnecessary in the salon. Sterilization is a difficult process and is NOT practical for salon use- as we are not in a sterile environment, and are not to be in contact with blood and body fluids.
For salons that actually choose to sterilize their implements/tools, it is unnecessary and INEFFECTIVE. For as soon as they remove their sterilized item(s) from the sterilization unit- they are contaminated (bringing the item to the ‘disinfected’ level) - as the salon is not sterile!
Nail Professionals, Professional (Beauty/Cosmetic) Assoc’s- NMC, INTA, the FDA and CDC are against any proposed regulation of sterilization in the salon as it is “unnecessary, ineffective & impossible to maintain.”
